UTV Garage: How To Change A Polaris General CVT Belt

Learn how to inspect or change a 2016 Polaris General 1000 CVT Belt.

Polaris General 1000 Belt Change:
With a 5/16” or 8mm Nut Driver remove hose clamp on the fresh air tube and all of the cover bolts. The cover slides off easy, don’t force it.
Rotate the secondary so the ears in the center are at a 45-degree angle. Insert the clutch tool at a slight angle and pry toward the engine.
Now, work the belt up over the side of the secondary clutch.
When it gets too hard to rotate use the clutch tool to pry the ears again one more time. The belt should slip right off.
Inspect in between the ribs for signs of fraying. Also look around the sides and top for cracks or splits.
When you reinstall the old belt or a new one, make sure your label is facing the right way and can be read from the top.
Hang the belt over the primary, then use your tool to spread the secondary. You can then feed the belt between the sheaves.
When the belt gets too tight, pry with the tool one more time while feeding the belt on. Reinstall the cover and fresh air hose.
